Hey Defenders! There is an awesome place in the Northwest Region of the United States called the Redwood Forest. The Redwood forest is a majestic forest with lots of biodiversity. Many animals call the Redwood Forest their home including the Black Tailed Deer, Northern Spotted Owls, Fishers, Raccoons, Pine Martens, Bobcats, Red-Bellied Newts, our animal of the week, the Banana Slug and many other animals. The Forest is home to many species of flora as well, including the massive Costal Redwood trees, Sequoia sempervirens, along with numerous other trees, mosses, fungi, ferns and other bushes and shrubs.
This diverse ecosystem is very important to maintain and conserve for future generations and for the animals that live their. The are many great people out there working to conserve the redwood Forest and in this page we are featuring a great company called the Sempervirens Fund. This organization works hard to maintain the beautiful Redwood forest through many methods, some of which include removing invasive species, restoring land affected by logging, along with working with California State Parks to expand existing parks and create new ones.
Please check out their website to find out what you can do to help conserve and protect the Redwood Forest. This way we create a better future for our animal of the week, the Banana Slug and all of their friends that inhabit the forest.
To find out more about how you can get your conservation organization or fund featured on its own page in the Kids' Zone then contact our main office for details.
