The Black and White Tegu (Tupinambis merianae) is one of the largest species of tegu, growing to about 4 feet long at maturity. Native to South American tropical rainforests, savannas, and grasslands, tegus are an ecological equivalent of monitor lizard, which are found widely distributed throughout the eastern hemisphere. Tegus are also extremely intelligent and have beautiful black and white beaded skin. Though powerful and strong, the tegu pictured above is one of our sweet education animals.
